About

I’m a painter and ceramicist living in the Bay Area, California, USA (territory of the Chochenyo-speaking Lisjan Ohlone people). My artwork focuses on capturing movement and fluidity as personal mark-making and authenic gesture.

I’m inspired by colors, gradients, patterning and lines in nature — especially those of flora, sky, and ocean. These natural forms point to the expansiveness of life, create a language of awe and beauty that I explore in my artwork, and leaves me inquiring — what can I learn from nature? What discoveries about myself does nature point to?

Making art and sharing my creativity is an act of resistance and un-tethering of self from the all-consuming capitalistic machine. My intent and hope is to unplug fully and inspire my community to create a hand-made life.

When not making art, I support artists with their artwork at Creative Growth, a progressive studio in Oakland, CA.

gabcorant is short for my long name: Gabriela Cordeiro Antunes. I go by Gabi in person:)
