BOTANICAL INK SERIES
I make inks and pigments from plant material (leaves, branches, petals, bark, cones, etc) and earth (stones and rocks) - harvested from my walks, surfs, or foraging trips.
Using a process called laking - whereby modifers (iron, soda ashe, alum) are added to water and adhere to the plant matter (bark, petals, leaves) to extract color for pigment making. Once evaporated into dusty pigments, I add a medium - water, gum arabica, clove oil, honey - and mull pigment and medium together to make my inks.
